Importance of Volunteering
-
Serve the Community.
Volunteer work has given me a renewed sense of purpose and led me to develop strong relationships with the local community.
-
Assist our Loved Ones.
As an advocate, my mother was a role model serving on many committees. By teaching me the importance of giving back, it's an honor to follow in her footsteps.
-
Support our Community Advocates.
Being an advocate requires involvement by participating in community events.
Volunteer work has given me a renewed sense of purpose, led me to develop relationships with the local community, and allowed me to gain a heightened sense of compassion. Growing up, my mother was a role model as an advocate who served on many committees, including PTA and went to Albany to fight for funding for public schools and parks. She raised money for the City of Hope, was at the opening of their Los Angeles Campus, and donated to Saint Jude. I owe it to her for teaching me the importance of giving back. Therefore, it's an honor to follow along in her footsteps. During the 70s, when the doorman/porter strike took place, I helped my elder neighbors collect their garbage. Recognizing the rewarding feeling of helping others led to my determination to assist those in need. As an adult, I've continued to increase my involvement of being an advocate by participating in multiple Aids Bike Rides that raised thousands of dollars. In addition, I volunteered at this year’s 5 Borough Bike Tour presented by Bike NY. Since then, I have become active in the Four Freedom Democratic Club and look forward to doing more service.
